Ao abrigo de uma Bolsa Fulbright para Investigação com o apoio da FCT, Marta Barros, estudante de doutoramento em “Psychology” da Universidade de Lisboa, desenvolveu parte da sua pesquisa sobre “methodology to improve recognition memory for cross-race faces” na University of Colorado Boulder, CO, EUA.

During my 9-month research period at the University of Colorado Boulder, in the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience, I was involved in several research projects. In particular, I successfully replicated one of the planned experimental studies in an American context, which is currently in the data analysis phase.
From a cultural and personal perspective, my experience in the United States provided valuable opportunities to build meaningful relationships both within and beyond the academic environment. I developed strong connections with colleagues in the department, as well as with people I met through the university gym and my roommates.
As a Fulbright grantee, I also participated in activities that fostered international and intercultural exchange. Notably, I attended a seminar in Houston celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States Declaration of Independence, where I met participants from around the world and further strengthened my connections within the Fulbright community.
My immersion in American culture was further enriched through personal experiences, including celebrating Thanksgiving with my roommates and friends in Boulder and spending Christmas in Ohio with the families of both my roommates. These experiences allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of American traditions and everyday life, complementing the academic and professional benefits of my international mobility period.
