«My time in the United States also offered an extraordinary opportunity to engage with new cultural and social environments. Traveling across several states allowed me to observe the country’s infrastructure, sustainability practices, and everyday habits, often contrasting them with European public transportation systems and local customs. Celebrating American holidays and even routine activities such as grocery shopping became meaningful experiences, providing insight into the rhythms and values that shape daily life.
Sharing Portuguese culture was an important priority throughout my stay. I introduced colleagues and friends to traditional pastries, local wines, aspects of marine life, and customs from my home country. This exchange of cultures became one of the most fulfilling aspects of my Fulbright experience and greatly contributed to the meaningful friendships I formed during my time abroad.
The Fulbright program profoundly shaped both my academic trajectory and personal development. I gained advanced knowledge in 3D bioprinting and coding, significantly improved my English communication skills, expanded my international academic and professional network, and developed a deeper understanding of the cultural and institutional dynamics within the United States. Although moving abroad during a personally challenging period required resilience, the Fulbright experience provided a strong foundation that helped me remain grounded. Without question, it stands as one of the most transformative experiences of my life.»
