«The Fulbright scholarship enabled me to advance in my PhD work and the experience was very positive: I had the opportunity to take part in lectures and conferences organised at the ASRC-Advance Science Research Centre, and to learn more about other scientific areas.
My time in New York City was incredibly enriching, both academically and personally. Stepping out of my comfort zone and immersing myself in new realities and cultures greatly contributed to my personal growth. The research group I was part of included people from various parts of the world, giving me the opportunity to learn about different cultures and traditions through the exchange of ideas and experiences. During my four-month stay, I made the most of everything New York had to offer. I completely fell in love with the city and intend to return in the future. I visited several museums; libraries and I watched the NYC marathon and the Thanksgiving parade.
I delved into the history of the city and its different neighborhoods, making this experience even more memorable. During Halloween I visited Sleepy Hollow, a time of year much celebrated in the USA and in a different way to Portugal. I also had the opportunity to spend Christmas in Boston and get to know the city. It was a very different Christmas as I spent it with an American family, which gave me the chance to get to know their traditions during this festive season.».
