Fulbright Commission Portugal renews partnership with the Regional Government of the Azores

On May 6, 2026, the Executive Director of the Fulbright Commission, Otília Macedo Reis, and the Vice President of the Regional Government of the Azores, Artur Lima, signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the renewal of the Fulbright-RGA joint-grant program. The event took place at the residence of the U.S. Consul in Ponta Delgada, Rita Rico, with the presence also of the Director of the Director of the Regional Fund for Science and Technology, Bruno Teixeira.

As an integral part of the strategy for developing the Fulbright Program in Portugal,  the partnership established with the Regional Government of the Azores in 2019 has significantly strengthened academic exchange between the Azores and the United States, supporting mobility for both Portuguese and American students, researchers and professionals, while reinforcing advanced training and research collaboration in the region.

Under this partnership, 19 grantees were already supported, of which 10 Azorean students and researchers that have developed their projects in the US and 9 American students and researchers that chose the region as a host for their Fulbright projects. That was only possible by the two partners joining forces and cost sharing the program, with a very significative Regional Government contribution since 2019.

We look forward to extending the good results of this partnership, starting with a renewed and more robust cooperation agreement for another 3-year cycle.

Partilha!
