Fulbright alumnus and renowned photographer and film director Neal Slavin (Neal Slavin Photography) (1967/68) returned to Portugal after 50 years to follow up on his book PORTUGAL, a documentary book of portraits of Portuguese life and people in the late 1960s.

When Neal returned to Portugal last year, he paid a visit to the Fulbright Commission and joined us in welcoming the incoming U.S. students who were just starting their programs. Neal was also a Fulbright research student in 1967/1968, so this was a great opportunity to revive old memories!

His new work, SAUDADE, will be completed in 2018 and features a photographic book and a documentary film. The trailer to “Saudade: A love letter to Portugal” is out and you can watch it here:  https://www.nealslavin.com/SAUDADE-2017/42/caption

Neal Slavin has photographed for most of the major magazines around the world such as The New York Times Magazine, The London Sunday Times Magazine, Esquire, Frankfurter Algemeine Zeitung, Oprah Magazine, Rolling Stone, Life, Geo, and New York Magazine and has produced and directed countless TV commercials through his own production company, SLAVIN-SCHAFFER FILMS.

In addition, Slavin’s feature films include FOCUS, based on the book by Arthur Miller, which stars William H. Macy and Laura Dern.
