The Study & Research in Portugal Pavilion will be back at NAFSA 2022 Annual Expo & Exhibition – “Building our Sustainable Future”, to be held in Denver, Colorado, USA – from May 31 to June 3, 2022.

This year’s pavilion is the largest ever reserved by a Portuguese delegation and it will house over 50 representatives of 22 Portuguese Universities, Polytechnics and other programs and institutions.

The event is part of the USA-Portugal Campus initiative and results from the combined efforts of the Portuguese National Erasmus+ Education and Training Agency (ANE+), the Luso-American Development Foundation (FLAD), and the Portuguese Fulbright Commission, which created and is implementing a strategy for bringing the USA and Portugal closer together in terms of academic mobility, giving greater visibility to Portugal in the USA as a destination for US-based students.

NAFSA’s Conference/Fair is the largest meeting of international educators and service providers in North America. It typically draws thousands of visitors from around the world and the exhibition hall has more than 400 exhibitors from over 50 countries.

The representation of Portuguese higher education and research institutions located in the STUDY & RESEARCH IN PORTUGAL pavilion at NAFSA (#1230) constitutes an important opportunity to:

  • Promote a unified and attractive image of Portugal in terms of capturing a greater share of foreign students and researchers, namely through the portal;
  • Reinforce the image and competitiveness of participating institutions;
  • Develop contacts, not only with existing partners but also with new and potential future partners from North America and/or other parts of the world;
  • Direct contact with professionals with responsibilities in the same area of work;
  • Deepen knowledge on the various components of international education administration through participation in workshops, panels, and trainings offered at the NAFSA Conference;
  • Participate in networking events and opportunities;
  • Share knowledge about the diversity of Portuguese higher ed offerings with partners in the Portuguese diaspora in the USA.

To further pursue such opportunities, the presence at NAFSA will be followed by a delegation visit to the San Francisco area, in coordination with the Consul General of Portugal in San Francisco. The visit will include meetings and networking engagements with representatives from University of California Berkeley, Stanford University, Santa Clara University and the local Portuguese Community.
