Yanira Garcia studied Psychology and Spanish & Portuguese at Emory University, during which time she became interested in a career in education from her experience tutoring Atlanta public school students. Yanira also worked with a team at Vanderbilt Peabody College to research low-income high school seniors’ experiences, with the aim of finding ways communities can best support students in their transition from high school. As a first-generation college student working toward a career in educational advising for underrepresented and immigrant students, Yanira is excited to engage with students as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant at the Instituto Universitário de Lisboa.
