Mauro Barbosa Franqueira is starting his PhD in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Florida, delving into spacecraft dynamics exploration and exploitation. With a keen focus on Advanced Guidance, Navigation, Control, and Autonomy (GNCA) space applications, Franqueira’s research primarily centers on two pivotal domains: i) Rendezvous, Proximity Operations, and Docking, where he investigates the intricacies of satellites flying within 500 km of each other, probing the challenges and opportunities inherent in such close proximity. ii) Franqueira is also deeply engaged in trajectory optimization and space mission planning, aiming to refine methodologies for more efficient and effective space exploration endeavors. Through his doctoral journey and with the support of Fullbright, Mauro aims to enhance the precision and safety of spacecraft maneuvers and to innovate in the strategic planning of space missions, contributing to the broader field of aerospace engineering with cutting-edge research.
