Francisco Almeida is PhD student in the Mechanisms of Memory and Alzheimer’s Disease group at the University of Minho and a Neuroradiology resident at Centro Hospitalar Universitário do Porto. His research focuses on understanding how the biological basis of brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can be used to shed light on the pathophysiological mechanisms of Alzheimer’s disease, exploring new pathways to biomarker development in clinical practice. With the Fulbright, he will explore lipid signaling and MRI determinants of myelin turnover in the laboratory of Profesor Jia Guo at Columbia University in New York. This research project will link lipidomics and high-field MRI with potential translational implications for a range of neurodegenerative diseases.
