Francisca Perfeito is pursuing a PhD in Medical Biotechnology at COMPASS Research Group – CICECO – Aveiro Institute of Materials. Her research focuses on establishing a closed and self-sustainable system for Tissue Engineering by combining photosynthetic microalgae and cells. As a Visiting Student Researcher at University of Harvard Medical School/Brigham and Women’s Hospital, under the supervision of Professor Yu Shrike Zhang. Francisca will explore three-dimensional (3D) printing of functional living materials in large tissue constructs in order to achieve a living complex material capable of readily providing oxygen for large timepoints.
