Sara is currently in her third year of her PhD in Chemistry at the University of Aveiro, focusing on developing new photo-responsive phthalocyanine and porphyrin dyes for potential applications in Materials and Medicinal Chemistry. Her background includes organic synthesis, cell culture, photodynamic therapy, RT-PCR and PAGE detection. She has been developing new photosensitizers, and, during the 7 months at the Division of Biology and Biomedical Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis, she will have the opportunity to apply them for the combined cancer radiotherapy and photodynamic therapy.
