Carlos is a Ph.D. student in Experimental Biology and Biomedicine, at the Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology – University of Coimbra. In his Ph.D., Carlos is investigating the structure and dynamics of G-Protein Coupled Receptors, in particular the ghrelin receptor. In collaboration with Dr. Filizola’s group at ISMMS in New York, Carlos plans to study how different ligands lead to different downstream effectors in the cell, using enhanced computational methods. Carlos hopes that his work will contribute to understanding biased signaling in GPCRs that will ultimately lead to more accurate drug design to target this family of receptors.
