Alexandre Viana is currently in the first year of a PhD Program in Sustainable Chemistry. He has been doing his research in LAQV-REQUIMTE at the University of Porto, around metal-organic framework based materials preparation and application on heterogeneous catalytic systems towards more sustainable chemical processes. His thesis is related to the preparation of catalysts based in gold nanoparticles and metal-organic frameworks for the conversion of glycerol, aiming for the valorization this by-product from the biofuel industry. At University of California, Berkeley, he will have the opportunity to enlarge his expertise around porous and crystalline metal-organic frameworks design, preparation, and characterization.
