The Board of Directors of the Fulbright Commission is pleased to announce the 2023 Portuguese and American recipients of the Fulbright Portugal Awards!

Since its creation in 1960, the Fulbright Commission in Portugal has developed an important role in the promotion of bilateral engagement and mutual understanding between the USA and Portugal, through its mission in the areas of education and science, by offering opportunities for the exchange of scholars, researchers, and students from both countries.

This year, joining forces again with the Commission’s partners (FCT – Foundation for Science and Technology; FLAD – Luso-American Development Foundation; Camões Institute; Regional Government of the Azores) and several host institutions on both sides of the Atlantic, a total of 55 grantees , of which 35 Portuguese and 19 American, were selected for the Fulbright Program in Portugal.

This outstanding group of students, researchers and professors reflects the diversity of both the Portuguese and the U.S. societies. The Commission is also glad to highlight the diversity of the grantees’ fields of study, from Anthropology and Curatorial Studies to Public Health and Environmental Law, and of their regions of origin and placement.

For over 75 years, the Fulbright Program has given worldwide hundreds of thousands of passionate and accomplished students, scholars, teachers, artists, and professionals of all backgrounds and fields the opportunity to study, teach and conduct research, exchange ideas, and contribute to finding solutions to complex global challenges.
