«This month marks the end of my research period in the USA. During this time I had the opportunity to represent Portugal in the research effort to make space exploration more accessible for academic research. My work was directed at a novel low-communication approach to the navigation system of the four small-satellite formation that our research group is developing for an upcoming mission. During this time I had hands-on experience with flight hardware and discussed my research with some of the brightest minds in the field. I hope to have contributed to bringing the USA and Portugal closer and that other engineers or scientists from Portuguese institutions become inspired to also pursue a career in America to bring their strong scientific expertise to the forefront of innovation. In the end, I would like to express my gratitude to Fulbright and FLAD for the experience and lifetime opportunity to study at the such a prestigious university as Carnegie-Mellon and to have the opportunity to place both Portugal and Instituto Superior Técnico as an integral part of an upcoming small-satellite NASA mission.».

Thank you, Rafael, and welcome back!
