Portuguese Fulbright Scholar, academic year 2014/2015.

Imagine walking your children to school through a path of lush exotic trees, with lizards of all kinds and sizes jumping around your feet, colourful parrots screaming from the treetops, until finally crossing a lake where an alligator or a manatee could be swimming. This was our family life every morning at the campus of the University of Miami, Florida.

While our four-year daughter was enjoying school activities with children from around the world, me and my husband, who is also an academic, immersed in research and networking with scholars from the University. All this was possible because of the Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program.

I was a Fulbright scholar in the University of Miami School of Business and Administration for the academic year 2014/2015. Both I and my husband had the opportunity to benefit from the world-class research environment and resources of the University, having started several joint projects.

As a Portuguese family leaving in Miami we experienced many aspects of life that are different from our own. We learned about American and Caribbean culture, tasted food from different regions, saw exotic animals and flora, made friends from all parts of the world. These experiences widen our minds and will stay forever with us, particularly with our young daughter.
