Fulbright U.S. Research Student Abigail Lindo shares how she has been engaged in activities to celebrate Women’s History Month in the Azores.

Well done, Abby!

I am happy to be celebrating Women’s History Month in Portugal this year! At the University of the Açores, the American Corner celebrated International Women’s Day through a series of speakers and panels featuring talented professionals from different fields. I participated in this celebration by performing two inspirational songs by female artists, providing an uplifting soundtrack for an already encouraging celebration. Beyond this event, I have had the pleasure of teaching an English language course to amazingly talented nurses in Angra do Heroismo and Ponta Delgada.

I additionally presented an engaging talk about Black Music in the United States for Black History Month and speak with aspiring educators about the value of acknowledging and celebrating student diversity in the classroom. These experiences have been affirming and beneficial, and I am thankful for the upcoming conference I am planning in May and other potential opportunities to collaborate with my colleagues on the island.”
