Today is World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development.

Fulbright Portugal joins and celebrates this important date proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in 2002. In this symbolic day we are once again encouraged to deepen our understanding of the values of cultural diversity and to advocate human rights and fundamental freedoms. A day that takes us back, in fact, to the post-war context in which Fulbright Program and its mission were born. Since its creation in 1946, Fulbright Program has continued to cross borders with the aim of supporting peace and the opportunity for dialogue through educational exchange. The Program’s guiding principle – ‘turning nations into people’ – underlines international reciprocity. Following the recognized binational tradition, Fulbright Program continues today to build a culture of inclusion, respect for diversity, and understanding of the many differences that enrich it and that make societies more prosperous, rightful, and peaceful.
