The Board of Directors of the Fulbright Commission – Commission for Educational Exchange between the United States of America and Portugal – is pleased to announce the 2021 Portuguese and American recipients of the Fulbright Portugal Awards!
Since its creation in 1960, the Fulbright Commission in Portugal has developed an important role in the promotion of bilateral engagement and mutual understanding between the USA and Portugal, through its mission in the areas of education and science, by offering opportunities for the exchange of scholars, researchers, and students from both countries.
This year, despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, and joining forces with the Commission’s partners (FCT – Foundation for Science and Technology; Camões Institute; FLAD – Luso-American Development Foundation; Regional Government of the Azores) and several host institutions on both sides of the Atlantic, a total of 56 grantees, of which 41 Portuguese and 15 American, were selected for the Fulbright Program in Portugal.
This outstanding group of students, researchers and professors reflects the diversity of both the U.S. and the Portuguese society. The Commission is also glad to highlight the diversity of the grantees’ fields of study, from Anthropology to Biology to Aerospace Science, and of their regions of origin and placement.
For 75 years, the Fulbright Program has given worldwide hundreds of thousands of passionate and accomplished students, scholars, teachers, artists, and professionals of all backgrounds and fields the opportunity to study, teach and conduct research, exchange ideas, and contribute to finding solutions to complex global challenges.
