Maria Valeis a PhD student in Applied Psychology at the Psychology Research Centre, School of Psychology, University of Minho. Her research project focuses on technology-facilitated dating abuse among adolescents. As a Visiting Student Researcher, Maria will have the opportunity to collaborate with Professor Denise Hines at the Department of Social Work, College of Public Health, George Mason University, Virginia. She hopes to provide new insights into the role of bystanders in technology facilitated sexual abuse, specifically focusing on adolescents who witnessed such incidents (factors that either facilitate or act as barriers to their intervention) and those who did not (predictors of their intention to intervene on behalf of the victim in the future). The outcomes of this collaboration will contribute to improving prevention and intervention strategies in this field.
