Beatriz Mamede is a Master’s student in Criminal Law at the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra and holds a bachelor’s in law from the University of Lisbon. Her current thesis focuses on the uses of neurosciences for the social reintegration of criminal agents. As a Visiting Student Researcher at the University of Washington, Beatriz will develop a research project on the ethical reflections on the implications of neurotechnology, focusing on how to draw the line between the use of neurotechnology for healthcare or for cognitive enhancement purposes. She will participate in philosophy colloquia of the Neuroethics Research Group, as well as on empirical studies about the prospective use of neurotechnology for medical treatments.
