Susana Tracana
Susana Tracana is a Ph.D. student in the HIV Evolution, Epidemiology and Prevention group at the Research Institute of Medicine, Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Lisbon. Her Ph.D. research focuses on the virus-host interaction of HIV-2 in comparison to HIV-1. In particular, she aims to contribute to a better understanding of HIV-2 pathogenicity and the function ofspecific regions of envelope glycoproteins. As a Visiting Student Researcher at the Laboratory of Molecular Microbiology at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Susana will focus on investigating the possibility of HIV-2 being able to infect cells via interaction with integrin α4β7, a gut mucosal homing receptor, as HIV-1 does.
