Diogo Carvalho
Diogo Carvalho is pursuing a PhD in Engineering Physics at the Group of Lasers and Plasmas / IPFN – Instituto Superior Técnico. His research focuses on machine learning algorithms for laser-plasma simulations. In particular, how can one obtain significant computational speed-ups while enforcing known physics constraints. During his stay at the University of California-Los Angeles, he will have the opportunity to collaborate with Prof. Paulo Alves on the development of accelerated multi-scale plasma physics simulators and the extraction of reduced plasma models from simulation data. The outcome of this work could provide significant contributions to the fields of astrophysics, compact particle accelerators, and physics-inspired machine learning models.
