Rui Colaço
Rui is a PhD student in Territorial Engineering at the Instituto Superior Técnico. His research deals with firm (retail) location models in the context of urban planning while also considering the impacts of online shopping. The outcome is expected to produce relevant insights into the persistent patterns of retail location that may help policymakers deal with the challenge of keeping retail in the streets in the face of technological change and adoption. As a visiting student at the University of California-Santa Barbara, Rui will have the opportunity to work with Prof. Konstadinos Goulias in assessing the transferability of the models, namely considering panel data regarding network centrality indexes / space syntax measures. The exchange will also allow meeting a different lab in the final semester of the PhD thesis, thus adding value to the research project academically and personally.
