Carlos is a Ph.D. student in Biology at the Centre for Environmental and Marine Studies, University of Aveiro. His research focuses on clarifying the role of anthropogenic contaminants and natural toxins in triggering neurotoxicity, investigating marine macroalgae as potential neuroprotective functional foods, while elucidating about multi- and transgenerational effects. As a visiting student at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Carlos will have the opportunity to expand his knowledge on cellular and molecular mechanisms of neurotoxicity, performing a neuronal and cell biology appraisal on the model organism Caenorhabditis elegans. This stage can provide a sharper view on some of the mechanisms behind neurotoxicity.
