Ana is a PhD candidate in Procedural Law at Nova School of Law, in Lisbon. She is also a Portuguese qualified lawyer with over six years of experience in international arbitration and litigation at a leading law firm. Ana was awarded a Fulbright Grant to study the application of the 1958 New York Convention on Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards by US courts at Columbia University. She will study how these courts interpret what constitutes and what (rules of) law applies to the parties’ inability to present their case in international arbitration under Art. V(1)(b) of this Convention. This fits her doctoral research on the uniform judicial application of this Convention when parties raise due process concerns. She will employ doctrinal, comparative, and empirical methods with the aim of promoting the efficacy of international arbitration awards in specific, and dispute resolution in general.
