Lúcia Serra is a Ph.D. student in Cell and Molecular Biology, at the Instituto de Medicina Molecular, University of Lisbon. Her project aims to disentangle the mechanism behind a novel RNA modification that affects RNA stability in Trypanosoma brucei, the parasite causing sleeping sickness. During her time at Weill Cornell Medical College, Lúcia will use cutting-edge biochemistry techniques to characterize how this RNA modification is controlled and assess whether it is conserved among organisms – shedding light into a new regulator of gene expression.
