Artur Neves
Artur Neves is a PhD student with a project that addresses the challenge of celluloid historic preservation. Celluloid, the first semisynthetic plastic, was invented in the USA in 1870 and is now important material culture. To achieve his goals, he needs to work in close contact with celluloid objects. Working in the Department of History of the University of Maryland will allow him to get access to important American celluloid collections. As an outcome of his investigation, he aims to establish the first celluloid exhibition in Portugal, promoting the search and conservation of a material whose historical importance must be highlighted.
