U.S. Scholar Program – Fulbright Award in the Humanities / ULisboa

Additional qualification information: Ph.D., with minimum five years of teaching experience.
Degree requirements: Candidates must have completed a Ph.D., or other terminal degree.
Disciplines: Applications are sought in all appropriate disciplines, but applications in American Studies, Art History, Language and Literature (non-U.S.) or Philosophy are preferred.
Specializations: Applications from any sub-field of the humanities are welcome, including Philosophy, Art History, Comparative Literature and English. Course proposals that involve two or more established subfields are also welcome.
Language proficiency: All activity will be in English; additional language proficiency is not required.
Grant duration and period
Three months, preferably starting in September, as agreed with the Portuguese host institution.

Grant activity: Teaching
This grant involves teaching one seminar in the Literary Theory graduate program and one undergraduate course in American Studies in a large English department, both of which are in the School of Arts and Humanities, Universidade de Lisboa (ULisboa).
Topics and course proposals for the graduate seminar should strongly emphasize relationships between literary and philosophical fields, including but not limited to: aesthetics, art history, theories of fiction and theories of poetry.
Topics and course proposals for the undergraduate course may engage a variety of fields, including but not limited to: literature, history, popular culture, philosophy or political theory. The contents and texts of the courses and other duties will be decided between the school and the scholar.
Letter of invitation: A letter of invitation is strongly preferred. The invitation letter should describe the grant activity and dates of stay.
Travel allowance: €1,100 (for scholar only; includes only flights)
Funding for dependents: €750 for one or two dependents; €1,200 for three or more dependents (must accompany the scholar for at least 80 percent of the grant period).
Health and accidents insurance: Accidents and Sickness Plan for Exchanges (ASPE).
Housing allowance: No housing allowance is available, but the host will assist the grantee to find housing.
Other: The host institution will provide computer facilities (PC and printer), Internet access (wireless) and e-mail, office space and secretarial assistance.
