Short-term research grants - National Library of Portugal
In partnership with the Luso-American Foundation for Development, the National Library of Portugal operates a Short-term Research Grant Programme.
These grants, which are for at least a month, and a maximum of two, are intended for researchers from universities, study centres and similar departments and institutions – particularly libraries and archives – in the United States. The grants cover a monthy payment of € 1,400 plus a travel allowance of up to € 750.
The BNP selects recipients on the basis of criteria that involve the project’s scientific merit, the extent to which the BNP’s collections are of interest to it, the originality of the proposal, and the guarantee that the persons concerned are fluent in the Portuguese language.
The BNP’s vast and valuable holdings include both printed documents and manuscripts, personal literary papers, and special collections of iconography, cartography and music (see Collections).
For application details and conditions of award, please see the FLAD/BNP Protocol. The Application Form must be accompanied by the candidate’s plan of studies and curriculum vitae, a certificate of institutional affiliation and letters of recommendation.
In 2010, the applications closed on April 15. See the 2010 recipients.
